A 10-member Venezuelan family, surviving the streets of Guatemala

Updated: Aug 1

Our local partner’s team encountered a family of 10 Venezuelans in the streets of Guatemala. Francelys, along with her husband and four children, left Venezuela due to government persecution. Her brother and his family have also joined them there.

GtD Impact is helping them obtain refugee status in Guatemala and assisting with their permanent residency paperwork. We are also helping to register the minors for public school, procuring work permits for the parents, and seeking access to public health services for the entire family. As a final step, we will incorporate them into the banking system. We are also working on connecting them with job opportunities.

Although it can be challenging to integrate foreigners into Guatemalan society, we are doing our best to help them efficiently and effectively. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to start a new life by doing things the right way.
